Seqwater Renewal of Bulk Water Flow Meters F77A and F78A

Location: Mt Crosby, Queensland

Sector: Water

Client: GHD

Asset Owner: Seqwater

Service: Development

Value: $8.5 million

Scope

Replacement of F77A and F78A electromagnetic and ultrasonic flow meters, and a section of the existing OD 1750 MSCL pipe using new DN 1600 MSCL spool pipes, including isolation and expansion joints, and reducers. The project also involved the installation of a new electrical cabinet access platform, including lighting, pipe supports, and electrical pits and conduits from the existing PLC building to the new Electrical Access Platform and flow meters.

+ Infravisory’s Role

As the Quantity Surveying and Estimating consultant, Infravisory provided GHD with a Class 1 P80 pre-tender estimate, including developing a detailed: Bill of Quantities for inclusion in the tender documentation, Construction program, Constructability review and risk analysis.

+ Challenges

The project presented a number of key challenges, particularly those associated with conducting works on the Mt Crosby pipeline, which is a critical asset responsible for supplying clean drinking water to Ipswich and Brisbane. As a result, it was imperative the flow meters at both the northern and southern pipes were replaced within a seven-day timeframe - making this a critical project for Seqwater.

+ Value Add

Infravisory took the time to understand the project’s complexities and associated constructability challenges, resulting in the team exceeding client expectations and developing an accurate pre-tender estimate that supports the project objectives.

To achieve this, the team worked closely with the market to source quotes for key scope items and provided Seqwater with accurate lead time durations enabling the identification of critical scope items requiring early procurement.

Infravisory also developed a construction program based on a detailed constructability review and considerations to ensure the allocated seven-day timeframe could be achieved.
